Sustainability Matters

At White Industries, sustainability starts with how—and why—we make things.

Since 1978, we’ve designed and manufactured bicycle components in California with a focus on longevity, serviceability, and responsible production. We believe the most sustainable product is one that doesn’t need to be replaced. That principle guides our engineering, our manufacturing decisions, and our relationship with riders. We don’t chase sustainability trends or make claims we can’t stand behind. Our approach is straightforward: make fewer things, make them better, and support them for the long run. Sustainability isn’t a campaign—it’s a result of doing things deliberately and responsibly, every day.

Built to Last

Our components are designed for long-term use, not short product cycles. Durable materials, tight tolerances, and rebuildable designs mean our hubs, cranks, and drivetrain components stay in service for years—often decades. Fewer replacements mean less waste and a smaller overall environmental impact.

Serviceable by Design

We prioritize parts that can be maintained, rebuilt, and repaired. Replacement bearings, freehub parts, and service kits are readily available, allowing riders and mechanics to extend the life of our products rather than discard them. This approach reduces waste and supports a culture of repair over replacement.

Manufacturing

By manufacturing most of our components in-house in Petaluma, California, we maintain direct control over quality, processes, and efficiency. In-house production allows tighter oversight of material usage, and supports responsible labor practices.

Thoughtful Materials & Processes

We work to minimize waste through efficient machining, responsible material sourcing, and continuous process improvement. Scrap material is recycled whenever possible, and our manufacturing practices are refined with longevity and consistency in mind—not speed or volume at any cost.

We’ve Gone Solar

A significant part of our sustainability approach is simply reducing the energy we consume in the first place. White Industries operates a solar array that supplies approximately 95% of the electricity used to power our facility and equipment. From machining and assembly to day-to-day operations, most of our electronic needs are met by energy generated on site. This investment allows us to reduce reliance on the grid, lower our overall environmental impact, and maintain greater control over how our products are made—quietly, efficiently, and responsibly.

Accountability

Bicycles are inherently sustainable, and we’re proud to support that mode of transportation with components built for daily use and long-term trust. As we move forward, we remain committed to refining our practices, reducing our footprint where possible, and staying accountable to the riders and community who support us.

Packaging

We also make deliberate choices about how our products are packaged. Whenever possible, we use recyclable materials and minimize unnecessary packaging to reduce waste at the end of a product’s life cycle. Our approach favors function and protection over excess—ensuring components arrive safely while limiting environmental impact. Thoughtful packaging is a small but important part of building products responsibly.
