Mark wears a lot of hats.
New dad. Dog dad. Husband. Engineer at a toilet paper factory. Road rider. Community builder.
Life is full — and riding fits into it not as an escape, but as a constant.
When asked to describe his riding in one sentence, he doesn’t talk about watts or race results.
“I enjoy the fresh air in my lungs, wind at my back, a tasty pastry treat and connecting with other riders on the road.”
That’s the tone right there.

From Ninja Turtles to 45,000 Miles
Bikes have been part of Mark’s life since childhood — starting with a borrowed Ninja Turtle bike from his sister.
He found balance early and hasn’t really stopped pedaling since.
Today, his 44 Bikes Huntsman has carried him over 45,000 miles around Philadelphia since 2020. That’s not a typo. Forty-five thousand miles.
Through shifting priorities, growing family life, and busy days, the bike has remained constant.
“While my life priorities are shifting, I always feel at home when I ride.”
Sunday Mornings & Sticky Buns
Mark’s ideal ride isn’t secret singletrack or remote backcountry — it’s a Sunday morning 50-mile road loop through the winding, quiet backroads of the Philly suburbs.
The destination?
Malvern Buttery.
Sticky bun.
Hot coffee.
There’s something deeply satisfying about earning a pastry and sharing the miles with friends.

Reliability First
Mark currently runs White Industries CLD disc hubs laced to his Princeton CarbonWorks Grit 4540 wheels.
Why White?
“The made in America White Industry’s hub both sounds amazing and performs flawlessly, that perfectly compliments the PCW performance.”
But beyond sound and feel, what matters most to him is simple:
“Overall reliability because the parts need to work when I want to ride!”
No drama. No downtime. Just parts that do their job.

The Detail Most People Overlook
When asked what riders often miss, Mark doesn’t mention gearing or tire pressure.
He says: water bottles.
After deciding to reduce plastic use and potential microplastic consumption, he switched from plastic bottles to Bivo stainless steel bottles.
It’s a small change — but intentional. For Mark, riding isn’t just performance. It’s lifestyle.

The Lesson: You Never Regret It
After years of consistent riding, one thing stands out:
“You never regret choosing to ride, even when it’s cold or early, rainy or dark — riding just elevates your mood.”
There’s something grounding about it. Resetting. Even on the days when motivation is low.
Prepared & Balanced
Mark’s Route Werks bag always carries a first aid kit.
“Better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it.”
AirPods?
AirPods for commuting to work.
Amish for pleasure.
There’s a time for music — and a time for listening to the world around you.
Building a Bike for the Long Haul
Mark’s advice for anyone building a bike to keep for years:
“Invest in quality parts for your main components, and use the lower tier option for wearable items (chain, bar tape).”
Spend where it matters. Replace what’s meant to wear out.
That’s long-term thinking.

Community Matters
For the past eight years, Mark has been involved with the Philly Bike Expo — an experience that opened doors to gravel racing, representing brands at expos, and connecting with riders from all over.
“The cycling community is so positive and that should be celebrated.”
He rides with and supports brands that share that ethos — companies building thoughtful, durable products designed to last.
And now, he’s part of the White Industries family — representing products he was already using.
He also rides for WTB, Pinebury, Routewerks, Princeton Carbonworks, SRAM, Redshift and Wolftooth – all amazing companies that make well thought out and durable products that have withstood the test of time. Follow along for the ride on: IG @yarkmanagisawa
