CHUB 20mm Thru

Chub 20mm thru hub                                 model year 2002-2005

Disassembly

  1. Remove axle ends by placing the 20mm thru axle half way into the axle end and pry back and forth.  Caution:  Only put the axle into the axle end, not through the bearing itself.  The dust cap is pressed into the hub shell and will come out with the axle end.  Repeat procedure on both sides of the hub.
  2. The bearings should now be visible on both sides of the hub.  To remove the bearings you will need a hammer and long punch.  Tap on the inner race of the bearing from the backside to remove the bearings.  You will have to be careful doing this as there is not a lot of contact area between the bearing race and the end of the punch.  Once one bearing is removed you can slide out the inner axle spacer.  Once that is accomplished you can remove the remaining bearing.

Assembly

  1. Press a new bearing into the disc brake side of the hub shell using a bearing press, socket or rod that is the size of the outer race of the bearing.  Be sure not to push on the bearing seal as that will damage the bearing.
  2. From the opposite side, slide the inner axle spacer, long side first, into the hub shell so that the axle mates up with the inner race of the newly pressed bearing.  Now press the second bearing into place using the same method as the first bearing.  It is imperative that both bearings are pressed straight into the bearing bore.
  3. Slide a dust cap over one of the axle ends and press the assembly over one of the exposed bearings.  Repeat this procedure for the other side.
